Believe in the Call
The Anointing Abiding in Us
"The anointing you have received of Him, abides in you." (1 John 2:27) In this passage John is referring to the anointing that was on Jesus, that Jesus gave to us. It "abides in" us. Jesus was anointed by God, to do the will and work of the Father here on earth. Before Jesus died, He gave us the commission to fulfill what He had started; to do and keep on doing, the Fathers will and work until the day that He (Jesus) returned. The anointing is what enabled Jesus to heal the sick, open the blind eyes, perform miracles, raise the dead and show mighty signs and wonders. The anointing that Jesus had also gave Him the ability to discern spirits, know the thoughts of men's hearts and to understand men's motives. He had the perfect answer for them every time they tried to confuse the issues. We mistakenly think that Jesus could do all these wonderful acts just because He was a part of the trinity. But the Bible clearly shows us that Jesus left all His heavenly authority and position when He came to earth to dwell with man. He only said those things that He heard the Father speak to Him. He only did those things that He saw His Father doing. This is the anointing. It's an unction from the Holy One, that leads and guides us in every area of our lives, if we learn to flow with it. Jesus depended on this anointing when He lived on earth. If we will obey God's Word, and follow His plan, we too must depend on the anointing in our lives. The Word says that the anointing abides in each one of us that are believers. If the Word says it, it is true. We must believe the Word first and always!
Each one of us has a call of God on our life. Believing this is crucial to our being prepared to obey God. Whatever it is that God has called us to do, He has anointed us with every power and tool we need to get the job done. The anointing is a supernatural empowering that enables us to do, say and go outside the limited scope of natural man. We find in the Bible that Jesus was often called "Christ Jesus" or "Jesus Christ". (Christ was not a part of His name, it's a designation that identifies Him with the call of God on His life). The word "Christ" means, "the anointed One". So whenever you see John or Paul writing about Jesus and adding 'Christ', they are making specific reference to the fact that He was the "Anointed One" and thus qualifies Him as One Who God called and equipped. From the Amplified Bible, we read I John 2:27 "But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction) which you received from Him abides (permanently) in you; (so) then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you must abide in (live in, never depart from) Him (being rooted in Him, knit to Him), just as (His anointing) has taught you (to do)."
Now, as a side comment, the subject "you have no need that anyone should instruct you" does not mean that you don't need to be taught by one who holds the ministry office of a teacher. It is referring to the anointing you have so you don't always have to be running to someone else for enlightenment about everything.
The reason it is vitally important that you believe in the anointing that is in you, is to protect you from the deceptions of these last days. I Timothy 4:1 says "The Spirit clearly says that in the later times, some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons."
How will we know who is true and who is false? It is by testing every spirit. How do we test every spirit? Believe in the anointing that is in you, and that you have an unction from the Holy One that enables you to discern spirits. The Holy spirit will be prompting us, but it is up to us to yield to that prompting and to obey the Word and TEST the spirits. It will not happen automatically, but involves our participation.
When I meditated on Matthew 24:24, I was trying to understand how some of the very elect could possibly be deceived. The very elect are those that love and obey God. These must have the Word of God hidden in their hearts, so it doesn't seem possible that they can be deceived through wrong doctrines, or distortions of the truth. How then? I believe it will be by those that come speaking the truth, preaching the truth. They will be casting out devils, healing the sick and prophesying. In other works, they will so closely resemble ONE OF THE ELECT, that without the discerning of spirits, we will accept them into the sheepfold. But they are not sheep - they are wolves dressed as sheep. If satan can disguise himself as an angel of light, then he knows that the only way he can penetrate the elect, is by sending in people who are disguised as saints. We must have the eyes of the Lord to properly discern these false prophets and teachers.
"Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and driven out demons in Your Name and done many mighty works in Your Name? And then I will say to them openly, 'I never knew you - depart from Me you act wickedly.'"
In Wuest's expanded translation of the New Testament, Ephesians 4:7-12 reads "Stop therefore becoming joint-participants with them; for you were at one time darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. As children of light be HABITUALLY conducting yourselves; for the fruit of this light is in the sphere of every beneficence and righteousness and truth, PUTTING TO THE TEST and then approving what is well pleasing to the Lord. And stop having fellowship with the unfruitful works of this darkness, but rather be REBUKING them so as to bring out confession and conviction, for concerning the things done in secret by them it is shameful to be speaking."
It is not through our flesh that we discern the spirits of men, but by the Holy Spirit that abides in us, alerting our spirit as He leads and guides us into all truth. I Corinthians 2: 15 (Amp bible) reads "But the spiritual man tries all things (he examines, investigates, inquires into, questions, and discerns all things);"
The Anointing Resting On Us
There is also the anointing that rests on us. One of my favorite scriptures is Luke 4:18 ""The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."" Everything that Jesus had, He gave to us. The same Spirit of the Lord that was on Jesus, is on us, as believers. We can confidently say, 'the Spirit of the Lord is upon me. He has anointed me!' This is a truth you must accept by faith in God's Word. The anointing is NOT a feeling. Sometimes the anointing is manifested as a feeling, such as shaking, falling, dancing and laughing. But these are physical - outward signs - that accompany the anointing, as a person yields to them. I've found that most of the time, the strongest anointing I personally have experienced is in the silence - quiet strength - before Almighty God. Where His Glory so consumes me that there is nothing physical involved, it's totally in the spirit realm.
If you believe that the anointing is present only when you feel warmth, extreme joy, tingling and trembling, then you will be living a life of spiritual up's and down's, because you cannot maintain these feelings on a constant basis. You will be unable to receive all that the Lord has for you if your belief is in an outward display of the anointing.
Your mind must be renewed, by the Word of God, to be 'anointing in me' mindful. Again, it's an act of your faith to believe 1 John 2:27. As an example, let's say that your neighbor bursts into your kitchen, screaming for help. Her teenager just slit his wrists and is dying. You do not have time to grab your bible and concordance and look up scriptures on healing and life. You cannot tell that mother, 'now you just go home because I'm going to put on some praise and worship music and as soon as I feel the anointing, I'll be over.' You must be able to flow with the Holy Spirit instantly! You must be able to keep your flesh quiet so that you can hear instructions from God. If you won't discipline your flesh, by the time you reach that child, your flesh will be dominating you and the battle will be difficult if not impossible to win. You are going to be moved by what you see - the blood, the gore of that scene. You are going to be moved by the pain and terror of the child and it's mother. You don't have time to get yourself right with God and pray that He comes to meet the need. You must KNOW that you have the life giving power within you - the same power that raised Christ from the dead - in you. When Jesus said that you and I will do the works that He did, and even greater works shall we do, He meant it. You have to believe this. You have to expect this. You have to be prepared in your heart to do this. Each one of us has the power to bring the manifested healing of God into that child, but it depends on our faith in God as well as faith in the anointing that is in us, that gives us the power and the authority over that problem.
Believe in the anointing, the call and the position that God has placed in you. Confidence that Christ in us, is the hope of Glory for this hurting world. Christ, "the Anointed One" in us. This lifestyle will keep us from responding and reacting to our flesh. Refresh your thinking in this area by reading this passage in the Bible. The fruits of our flesh are noted, followed by the fruits of the Spirit.
The Anointing That Rests On Others
Now that we believe that the anointing abides in us, then we need to take this a step further and believe that the anointing abides on others. When Jesus got up before the hometown crowd, He picked up the scroll and read from the prophet Isaiah. "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me. He has anointed me to preach the gospel of the good news to the poor..." Paul, in his first letter to the church in Rome announced himself just as Jesus had. (Romans 1:1) "Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ called to be an apostle (a special messenger) set apart to (preach) the Gospel (good news) of and from God." In his letter to the Galatians, he wrote, "Paul an apostle, a special messenger appointed and commissioned and sent out not by any body of men nor by or through any man, but by and through Jesus Christ." Over and over Paul announces his call to the church, reminding them continually of the anointing on his life, the anointing on his words and the anointing on his teachings. 1 Thess 2:4 from The Message Bible reads, "God tested us thoroughly to make sure we were qualified to be trusted with this Message. Be assured that when we speak to you we're not after crowd approval - only God approval. Since we've been put to that battery of tests, you're guaranteed that both we and the Message are free from error, mixed motives, or hidden agendas." As a result, the people believed in the anointing on Paul's life and because of their belief, they were able to receive from that anointing. Let's pick up in verse 13, "…When you got the Message of God we preached, you didn't pass it off as just one more human opinion, but you took it to heart as God's true word to you, which it is, God Himself at work in you believers!" They profited from believing in the anointing on Paul.
Everything that God does for us, is for our good! Everything! In the book of Titus, Paul writes "I, Paul, am God's slave and Christ's agent for promoting the faith among God's chosen people, getting out the accurate word on God and how to respond rightly to it. My aim is to raise hopes by pointing the way to life without end. This is the life God promised long ago - and He doesn't break His promises! And then when the time was ripe, he went public with His truth. I've been entrusted to proclaim this Message by order of our Savior, God Himself…receive every-thing God our Father and Jesus our Savior give you!"
Jesus, in Luke 10:18 said "The one who listens to you, listens to Me. The one who rejects you, rejects Me. And rejecting Me is the same as rejecting God, who sent Me." Jesus was talking about the disciples, our forerunners of the ministry. John 14:31 Jesus says "I only do what the Father has instructed Me to do. I act in full agreement to His orders." This is what an anointed person acts like. This is why we must look to the anointing that is in us, to discern who is true and who is false. The scriptures tell us over and over that we are not to be deceived. That means that it's possible to be deceived if we are not on guard. If the devil can disguise himself as an angel of light, how too can his agents and his ministers.
If "even the very elect" are susceptible to being deceived by false prophets and false apostles, it's crucial that we be led by the Holy Spirit and the unction within us. When we discern that someone is anointed by the Lord, we need to believe that God has sent them to US with a message that will change us, help us and encourage us. A message direct from God Himself. Then we can draw on that anointing and receive all that the anointing is present to do. This is not a one man show. None of us have everything that we need to make it successfully through life. We all need one another. Unity is very close to God's heart. We are to be united and joined together with those in the body of Christ. To believe in the anointing on one another, as confirmed by the Holy Spirit, and to profit one with another in each other's ministry gifts and callings.
Jesus, in His prayer of John 17:8 told the Father, For us to function and flow together as the Body of Christ, we must get rid of our human skepticism and distrust of one another. Yes, there have been many wolves wearing sheep's clothing that have hurt us badly. As the Lord said in His Word to us last year "My children have suffered greatly at the hands of those they have trusted to lead and guide them safely home." It is time to put away human trust and expecting the best of everybody. It is time to take the warnings of the apostles and heed their words of wisdom. It is not a time to be afraid. It is definitely not a time to pull away and hide yourself away because you don't know who to trust. Believe in the anointing inside of you, test the spirits and when the Holy Spirit gives you the green light, PULL on the anointing of that person with all you've got!
Matthew 10:41 says "Whoever shall receive a prophet, in the name of a prophet, shall receive the prophet's reward." A prophet brings the oracles of God. He is speaking what he hears God say. His words are what God wants His people to hear. The prophet is usually the one that God alerts to hidden dangers in the church. The prophet is the one to interpret to the church those things that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. The receiving or rejecting of a true prophet is making a statement to God. To receive a prophet of God is to receive Jesus, who was a prophet. To reject a prophet of God, is to reject Jesus. God depends on His anointing in us and in the people He brings to minister to us, to do His work in the earth today. We too must depend on the anointing and believe.
I pray that this helps bring you into a deeper truth of the wonderful gift of love that our Father has given to us!
