In our last letter we learned that money is not to be our master but rather it is a tool for our use. In this continuing study on money, our focus will shift from the cash to what the scripture calls 'true riches'.
"For wisdom is a defense even as money is a defense, but the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom shields and preserves the life of him who has it." Ecclesiastes 7:12 Amplified
Here we are told that money is a tool of defense. Wisdom is also a defense in our lives when used with the knowledge God provides in the Bible and by the Words of His Spirit. "Excellency of knowledge" is the knowledge one possesses of this fact; "wisdom (is a defense that) shields and preserves the life of him who has it". Money cannot completely shield and preserve our lives. Saddam Hussein and his sons bear testimony to this. There are limits to what money, as a defense, can do. But there are no limits to what wisdom will do for us. Wisdom is all encompassing, shielding us and preserving our very lives.
The book of Proverbs is referred to as 'the book of wisdom'. In this incredible book of insight into God's heart and into the character of man, we find great truths that are a tremendous help to us along the path of life. The truths in God's Words are a shield in the middle of a battle and a life preserver when we feel like we're drowning and going under for the last time.
The first thing we are taught about wisdom is that it is the "true riches". With wisdom a man can obtain wealth and use that wealth for good. Money alone cannot help any man who does not possess the wisdom to manage it. We are told to "obtain wisdom" and also to "cry out for wisdom." "ABOVE ALL ELSE, get wisdom". Obviously this should be paramount in our daily lives ~ the pursuit of and the obtaining of wisdom. For in wisdom is the knowledge of the fear of the Lord.
The fear of the Lord, briefly put, is the acknowledging of His Supreme authority over all. What God has said will be. You can either submit to Him in choosing life and blessings, or you can reject Him and therefore choose death and curses. It doesn't matter how much one might want more options, they simply are not available. He wrote the book of life and we have no choice but to live by His rules. He is awesome in love and terrible in judgment.
In order to live life according to His plan we must know what His plans are. He has graciously provided us everything we need to completely follow His heart and live by His plans. Wisdom is obtained from one source and that alone is God. He is wisdom. To learn from Him we have several resources, one the Holy Scriptures and another His Holy Spirit. Both are necessary for us to obtain wisdom.
There is a popular teaching in churches today, that money is a seed. This is not biblical doctrine, though how we sow money is indeed how we will reap money, as the law of sowing and reaping applies to every area of life. For example when we sow kindness, we will reap kindness; when we sow discord and we will reap discord. So, if we sow money we will reap money. But THE seed that the scripture talks about is God's Words. Mark 4:14 "The sower sows the Word." We are to plant the Words that God is speaking to us, from the scriptures and by the Holy Spirit. Planting the seed of His Word is literally to believe what He says, to agree with it and to allow it to change our perception. The seed grows in our thought life or our heart. The more we meditate and dwell on God's Words, the faster our seed will change our thinking and thus, our circumstances. Bearing fruit that comes to full maturity.
When we agree with that which God says and we plant that Word as seed by using our faith, we believe that God is not a man that He should lie. We trust that if God said it surely He will bring it to pass. This seed will then grow up and produce the fruit in our life that God intended. The scripture says that first the blade will show itself, then the stalk and then the head. It takes continued belief in the plan of God for the seed planted to grow up and bear fruit. A true farmer does not dig up the seed to check its condition. He knows that what he plants will come up. Also, a farmer knows that when he plants corn, corn is the crop that will come up. Likewise, we must know what it is that we have planted so that we will recognize it when it comes up. If we plant seeds of financial freedom Words then financial freedom is what must come up. "For I am fully persuaded that, what He has promised, He is able to perform for us in complete deliverance and wholeness"!
If the Lord gives you a seed to plant on prosperity, then be assured that if you will believe what God has said and you do your part in keeping that seed in your heart, if you are patient and endure the growing season without giving up, then you will surely reap what you have sowed.
Wisdom will bring us into the fullness of every promise of God. Just believing in the law of sowing and reaping is a huge understanding and a knowledge that will allow His wisdom to be a defense against poverty and lack. Find out what seeds are in God's Word. Take those seeds and plant them in your heart. Allow the Holy Spirit to teach you. Come into agreement with His Words and plant them deep in your thought life. Be firmly convinced and fully assured that what God has said, surely He will do!
When we meditate on God's Words we give the Holy Spirit opportunity to minister these deep truths to us, which increases our capacity to receive the promises and blessings of God, through the completed work of Jesus Christ on and through the cross. Our faith is increased and we are bearing fruit that remains.
We will continue this teaching on money in the next issue of Heart-To-Heart, so be looking for it as much as you look for a gift from God, for that is what it is!
May you take these words to heart and meditate on them, searching the scriptures to judge the truths herein, allowing the Holy Spirit to work truth in you, to the renewing of your mind. Find rest for your soul. Have a light and easy week as you accomplish great things for His Kingdom!
